Job Description

AECOM is seeking a senior-level Wetland Biologist to be a part of our dynamic team of environmental professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position will be located in AECOM’s Oakland office and will support a diverse range of clients on projects throughout Northern California.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading delineations of wetlands and waters to establish the boundaries of federal and state jurisdiction.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of the current regulations regarding wetlands and waters.
  • Using technical expertise to evaluate wetlands and waters, address complex situations, and suggest strategies and recommendations on impact avoidance and minimization.
  • Providing senior reviews of the permit applications and technical documents prepared by others and being capable of individually preparing permit application packages.
  • Leading or assisting in a range of biological tasks, which includes biological surveys (botanical, wildlife, etc.), construction compliance, and the preparation of technical reports.
  • Providing technical direction and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff.
  • Contributing as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting practice in the SF Bay Area.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant work experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in conducting delineations of wetlands and waters.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in preparing proposals, scopes, and budgets.
  • Experience as the principal author of jurisdictional delineation reports.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing permit application packages for submission to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Regional Water Quality Control Board.
  • Task management experience.
  • A positive attitude and adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented work style.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing permit application packages for submission to the California Coastal Commission.
  • Familiarity with plant species found in wetland habitats, capable of identifying and keying out plant species.
  • A working understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Certified Practitioner for the California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM).

Additional Information

  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The compensation offered will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work site. The salary range of this position is $85,000.00 - $129,000.00.
