Job Title: Transportation Computer Science Intern

The Leidos Surface Transportation Solutions Portfolio is actively searching for a Transportation Computer Scientist Intern to contribute to advanced computer science applications in various ground transportation domains, including Operations, Safety, Freight, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), and Automated Vehicle (AV) technologies. This is an exciting opportunity for proactive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individuals with excellent communication and writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will work closely with experienced professionals in a collaborative, fast-paced environment on a variety of tasks:

  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models and algorithms.
  • Support data management, transfer, analysis, and visualization on transportation safety and operations projects, including utilizing big data and AI/ML tools.
  • Assist in developing and integrating data science capabilities across multiple task orders.
  • Contribute to designing and automating IT infrastructure, tools, and systems to provide resilient platforms to our clients.
  • Optimize dataflow pipelines for improved efficiency and scalability.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Identify opportunities and seek funding by participating in growth strategy sessions and communicating with current and potential customers.
  • Develop documents, reports, manuals, and presentations to communicate project results to target audiences.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Electrical Engineering. A Master’s Degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C#, or C++.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development principles.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Proficiency in developing Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality applications.
  • Knowledgeable in utilizing Unity, Unreal, and CARLA for transportation applications.
  • Experience in an applied research, development, or testing environment.
  • Ability to perform well under multiple competing deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience in data analysis and visual analytics.
  • Familiarity with System Engineering principles.
  • Experience in transportation human factors and data-driven prediction modeling.

While the position is primarily remote, proximity to Northern Virginia is preferred.

Pay Range

Salary: $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
