About the Role: Research Intern – 3D Immersive Visual Compression

As a Research Intern focused on 3D Immersive Visual Compression at Dolby, you’ll work on cutting-edge technologies under the mentorship of Dolby’s leading media technology experts, addressing real-world 3D immersive video delivery problems. This role is based at our research offices in Sunnyvale, California.

Candidate Requirements and Preferences

We are looking for current PhD students with the following skills and experiences:

  • Background in 2D video coding standards (e.g., AVC, HEVC, or VVC) and 3D graphics compression (e.g., point cloud compression, dynamic mesh compression, etc).
  • Strong understanding of deep learning in image and video processing and 3D Implicit Neural Visual Representation (e.g., NeRF, NDGS, etc).
  • Completion of at least one year of a doctoral program.
  • Technical skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities, good communication and collaboration skills.
  • An insatiable curiosity for understanding the workings of video technology and a passion for innovation.

Summary of Position

Join our key research team within Dolby’s Advanced Technology Group, focused on developing advanced compression technologies that define next-generation consumer experiences. We seek candidates interested in:

  • Developing competitive 3D graphics video compression and 3D Implicit Neural Visual Compression technologies.

Requirements

  • PhD students in Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to explore new areas of 3D immersive video compression technology, validated through projects, prototypes, patent filings, and publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Proficiency in C, Python, and PyTorch.

Highly Desired Experience

  • Developing 3D immersive video compression technology.
  • Creating demos and prototypes for research applications.
  • Writing technical reports and publications.
  • First-author publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a doctorate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. You must be available to work full-time Monday through Friday for 12 weeks between September 2024 and December 2024.

Specific internship start dates: September 23, 2024.

Compensation

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $44-57/hr, subject to variation depending on the location. Compensation is determined by role, level, and location. Additional factors considered include job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Details on the specific hourly range, perks, and benefits for your location will be shared during the hiring process.
