Job Summary:

We're searching for a skilled GIS/Data Analyst to join our dynamic team, dedicated to geospatial and data-oriented tasks within our forest conservation initiatives across the Global South. Situated in Nairobi and reporting to our Geospatial Science Manager in Burlington, Vermont, this role calls for a candidate with robust geospatial knowledge, proficiency in GIS and remote sensing, and preferably with a background in forestry and biodiversity conservation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams in Nairobi and the US to handle geospatial-focused tasks.
  • Engage in project sourcing during the pre-feasibility stage and provide cartographic support for feasibility studies, Project Description documents and Monitoring Reports.
  • Execute forest inventory operations and manage secure data transfers.

Essential GIS Skills:

  • Expertise in cartography, geoprocessing, and spatial data management using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Perform land use/land cover change analysis utilizing advanced image classification methods.
  • Special emphasis on monitoring East African dryland forests through geospatial analysis.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field with specialized training in GIS / Remote Sensing.
  • At least five years of professional experience in environmental science or forestry.
  • Advanced proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS Pro preferred), including techniques in cartography, raster and vector data management, geoprocessing, and editing.
  • Exceptional computer skills and ability to work with mainstream office software.
  • Proven track record in an international, culturally diverse, and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with fluency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Authorization to work legally in Kenya.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in forest biometrics/biomass inventory.
  • Advanced capabilities in spreadsheet management, data entry innovation, Python programming, and use of ArcGIS Model Builder.
  • Knowledgeable in landcover change dynamics specific to the dryland forests of East Africa.
  • Additional language skills in French or Lingala are advantageous.
