Position: Senior Manager, Data Engineering

About The Role

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering will perform functions similar to those of a Principal Data Scientist, managing and improving our data infrastructure. Responsibilities include overseeing data systems, leading projects, developing data models, and implementing efficient workflows. This role also involves mentoring team members on best practices in data integration.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Data Strategy (80%)

• Maintain and ensure VentureWell's data system delivers accurate, clean, and integrated information.
• Build the infrastructure for optimal data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Lead data infrastructure projects to enhance data utility for organization staff.
• Develop and improve data models on an ongoing basis.
• Implement data cleaning and validation processes to maintain high-quality products.
• Establish and manage data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Document data architecture and set up data workflows.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to address data requirements.
• Mentor and guide data engineering team members.
• Identify new processes or products for efficient data use.
• Engage in organization discussions related to data security and use.

Foster Team Learning Processes (20%)

• Serve as a technical leader in the Data Intelligence (DI) team.
• Communicate and educate staff on emerging data technologies and best practices.
• Contribute to annual DI team strategy and retreat planning.
• Mentor DI team members and advocate for best practices in data governance and integrity.
• Support team growth through training and mentorship.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, applied math, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 7+ years of relevant experience as a data engineer or scientist.
• Experience in data management systems, data warehousing, data quality, and analytics.
• Proven track record in designing and building large-scale data platforms.
• Proficiency in programming and query language skills.
• Experience with data collection tools and industry best practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
• High initiative and passion for learning technology.

• Salary range: $110-$130k, commensurate with experience and internal equity.
