Our team tackles complex AI challenges to create the most advanced fraud detection system in the industry, contributing to open-source initiatives and publishing research.

Role: Applied Scientist Lead

We're looking for an Applied Scientist Lead to join us in tackling unsolved problems such as few-shot learning, large-scale self-supervised learning, bias mitigation, uncertainty modeling, and explainable AI. As a senior AI leader, you will drive Onfido’s growth by applying cutting-edge machine learning and computer vision techniques to deliver real-world value.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of junior and senior scientists to research and deliver innovative AI models.
• Provide technical leadership and foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence.
• Initiate and drive projects to advance identity verification technology, protecting against sophisticated fraud attacks.
• Communicate technical vision and roadmap within the organization and externally.
• Act as an external ambassador, providing industry thought leadership in AI.
• Contribute to scientific discoveries through hands-on work and collaborations.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders (Product, Engineering, Analytics, MLOps/DataOps, customer support).
• Publish research and represent Onfido at national and international conferences.
• Contribute to filing patents.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience leading an Applied Machine Learning team in the industry.
• Proven track record of delivering high-performance ML-driven products.
• Deep knowledge of machine learning fundamentals and applied deep learning.
• Strong interest in collaborating with multiple stakeholders and real-world customers.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with open-source contributions and outreach (publications, talks).
