Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Tasks

• Optimize, write, and manage database structures, SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions.
• Collaborate with the operations team to run queries in production as needed.
• Oversee data migrations and manage backups.
• Work with peer DevOps Engineers to implement changes in our production environment.
• Engage in sprint stories with a SQL component along with the existing DBA.
• Maintain SQL databases across all environments, focusing heavily on production.

Senior Tasks

• Provide database expertise to Engineering teams, including reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
• Assist developers in formulating SQL statements and conduct code reviews (PRs) for sprint releases.
• Review existing stored procedures, document the tables they write to, and suggest optimizations.
• Plan for data growth and manage database capacity infrastructure.

Monitoring

• Manage database instances, deployments, and replications.
• Monitor database performance, diagnose and resolve issues.
• Handle environmental questions.
• Manage logs and error analysis.
• Administer scheduled tasks and other cloud functionalities.

Qualifications

Essential SQL Skills

• Experience with Azure SQL Database. v-Core Hyperscale experience preferred but not essential.
• Proficiency in writing high-performing, complex queries, and stored procedures.
• Expertise in T-SQL performance troubleshooting and tuning.
• Strong schema design and data modeling skills, including normalization and de-normalization.

Specific Experience

• Experience with Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and large data sets.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, data factory, and Cosmos DB (SQL API and stored procedures).
• Experience with Blob storage, Redis, and Service Bus.
• Familiarity with C#, JavaScript, and KQL scripts.
• Experience deploying SQL changes via CI/CD using DACPAC.
• Google Cloud experience (Spanner, Cloud SQL, BigQuery) is a plus.
