Job Description

We have created our proprietary Commodity Trading Risk Management (CTRM) system, a comprehensive platform that manages our global business operations: from transaction authorization, through mid-office tasks like P&L reporting and price risk management, down to billing, encompassing every commodity we trade in–be it electricity, renewables, gas, crude oil, refined products, biofuels, or carbon certificates. Unlike others in the energy trading arena, at Vitol, our CTRM forms the heart of our business processes, engaging all our employees, often on a daily basis. We are seeking a Data Architect to join our team.

In collaboration with our development teams, you should:

  • Give SQL and PL/SQL support to developers.
  • Assist database developers in data design and SQL optimizations.
  • Create monitoring solutions.

And contribute to process and architecture improvements:

  • Support and maintain CTRM architectural features (such as Oracle forms architecture, reporting, logging, database lock management, and job scheduler).
  • Support and preserve the request and management tool.
  • Improve development quality process and automation (not limited to CTRM teams).
  • Train the development teams (for instance, on utilizing CTRM architectural features, development best practices like exception management or API design, and unit testing).
  • Document and update existing documentation for the CTRM technical scope and the development tools and processes.
  • Conduct technical surveillance (on aspects like Oracle Forms, new Oracle database features).
  • Contribute to technical upgrades and coordinate tasks across involved teams.
  • Contribute to or coordinate cross-functional technical projects.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Proven data modelling abilities to translate business scenarios into data structures, proficiency in SQL
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in similar roles, for instance, as a client-facing database engineer.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with the capacity to work independently as well as within a team.
  • A proactive, end-user-centric "make it work" mentality with a genuine interest in both the functional and technical aspects of encountered challenges; comfort with a daily release cycle model.
  • Eagerness to assist and collaborate across teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Complete proficiency in English in a business context (both spoken and written).
