Role: Data Scientist (Economist)

As a Data Scientist at Deliveroo, you will report to our data science management team and become part of a vibrant data science community. We offer numerous opportunities for growth and learning, including guest lectures, study groups, mentorship programs, and a comprehensive technical review process. Our data scientists progress as technical leads (individual contributors) or people managers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Scale our business and enhance experiences for restaurants, riders, and eaters.
• Utilize experimental or observational data to answer critical business questions:
  • Which markets/cities should we enter next?
  • How can we incentivize good rider behavior?
  • What is the business impact of exclusive deals with restaurants?
  • Can the delivery food market sustain multiple players?
  • What trade-offs exist between growth and profitability?
  • What is the optimal selection and variety of restaurants?
  • What effect do online reviews have?
  • How will changes in UI affect customer behavior?

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree or PhD in Economics or Econometrics (preferred).
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new skills.
• Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Creative and insightful thinking regarding business-relevant economic problems.
• Critical thinking with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency with analytical tools such as R/Python and familiarity with SQL.
• Ideally, industry experience post-academic career completion.
• Excellent people skills for translating business needs into economic problems.
