Job Overview: Data Scientist II

The Data Scientist II plays a critical role in supporting operational analytics for GPS, ensuring our products consistently meet pressing analytics needs. This position offers the opportunity to develop advanced analytics capabilities, including predictive modeling, simulation, and optimization. Ideal candidates possess a strong desire to solve business problems and engage in all facets of the analytics value chain.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets to provide meaningful insights and recommendations aligned with GPS priorities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business problems, goals, and KPIs, and design data pipelines, models, and reports.
  • Develop and implement GPS analytics to solve complex issues efficiently and accurately.
  • Enhance and automate high-value analytics while maintaining optimal functionality.
  • Collaborate with IT to improve data infrastructure, enabling efficient data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Adhere to technical best practices, including code version control, pipeline management, deployment, and documentation.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members as needed.
  • Maintain work hours that overlap with standard East Coast US working hours.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and derive meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience with digital analytics tools, platforms, and version control.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and strong business acumen.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations research, industrial engineering, supply chain, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related fields (Master’s/PhD is a plus).
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in operations research, data analytics, and data integration.
  • Expertise in analytical models like linear programming, network optimization, and decision analysis.
  • Experience working with large datasets, statistical software, and platforms (R, Python, SQL, Domino, AWS, GitHub, Tableau).
  • Experience with simulation software or DES libraries is a plus.
  • Background in biotech product development, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and quality control is advantageous.
  • Experience in the biopharma industry is an added advantage.
