About the Role

The Data Scientist-Power Systems Lead will play an integral part in shaping VEIR’s strategic direction. You will build and maintain sophisticated analytical tools and capabilities, integral for identifying and capitalizing on growth avenues across product lines and business initiatives. This role requires active collaboration with our growth strategy, commercial, regulatory, and product development teams, as well as engagement with external partners and customers.

Preferred Location and Work Mode

This role is primarily positioned at VEIR’s headquarters in Woburn, MA. However, considering the evolving work environment, we are open to hybrid or fully remote arrangements for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Who You Are

• Experienced: Proficient in power systems, including the usage of power flow analysis, transmission, and generation capacity expansion models such as Regional Energy Deployment System (ReEDS).
• Communicative: Able to articulate goals, timelines, progress, and potential risks effectively to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Collaborative: Comfortable working across various teams to develop and sustain analytical tools that reflect a range of interests and viewpoints.
• Analytical: Skilled in diverse analytical methodologies appropriate for various problem-solving scenarios, with a knack for strategic insights.
• Creative: Capable of pioneering solutions in scenarios lacking existing data and predefined tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement innovative analytical approaches to propel market insights, aiding in the strategic deployment of VEIR transmission solutions.
• Study and comprehend the impact of VEIR’s HTS solutions on electrical transmission frameworks.
• Continuously refine and adapt our suite of analytical models to support strategic company initiatives across various domains.
• Conduct in-depth studies to ensure seamless integration of VEIR technology with existing power system infrastructures.
• Closely work with engineering teams to design bespoke transmission projects tailored to meet specific client requirements.
• Maintain rigorous safety standards and actively promote a culture of safety, efficiency, and teamwork.

Basic and Preferred Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a robust background in electrical/power system engineering or a related field, seasoned experience in a start-up or energy industry consultancy, and proficiency in Python. An advanced degree and additional programming skills are preferable.

Expected Outcomes

• 3 Months: Gain deep insights into VEIR’s product development, commercial project pipeline, and strategic growth objectives.
• 6-12 Months: Become a key player in advancing VEIR’s analytical tools and software solutions.
