Data Scientist We are in search of a seasoned Data Scientist to augment our burgeoning machine learning (ML) team at PerfectRec. About PerfectRec PerfectRec is a machine learning-integrated decision-making engine devoted to assisting individuals receive high-quality, tailored recommendations without extensive research. Our objective is to ensure each individual gets the best product suited to them, whilst saving time and money. Our mission stretches to billions of users globally, collectively sparing them countless hours on their product searches and equally directing them towards the right products tailored to their needs at the most reasonable prices. We are initiating our journey with smartphones, laptops, and other consumer electronics due to the burgeoning necessity for reliable recommendations concerning these products. Our strategy includes branching out to suggest other products such as automobiles and clothing, and ultimately advancing into more complex decisions such as residential and professional choices. Navigating through spam-loaded search results, counterfeit reviews, and affiliated sites makes getting trustworthy and relevant product recommendations nearly unfeasible. Identifying the right product that fulfills your unique needs can be challenging. Making an incorrect decision based on faulty information can be a frustrating waste of time and money. To tackle this problem, we are combining actual human expertise with machine learning to aid all individuals—irrespective of their specialty—find their perfect product swiftly. To do that, we guide users through a series of questions regarding their product preferences. After each response, we provide updated recommendations and encourage users to answer more questions for further improvement in our recommendations. We gather more information about a user's specific requirements from our quick and straightforward multiple-choice questions than e-commerce sites and search engines can deduce from search inquiries and past browsing data. Our founding team comprises experienced individuals who have previously established successful startups in the e-commerce and recommender systems sector, and have also worked at major corporations, like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and UC Berkeley. We are growing rapidly and are in search of individuals excited to build a new product where they can make a meaningful contribution. Founder Led, Founder Funded Our CEO, Joe Golden, solely funded his first startup, Collage.com, which grew into a successful e-commerce platform for custom photo products with an annual revenue of approximately $100 million before being sold in March 2021. He is using the proceeds from that sale to build PerfectRec. What You’ll Do As a part of the ML team, you will concentrate on enhancing and expanding the central decision-making engine that powers PerfectRec's recommendations. Inaccurate predictions, when identified, will be rectified by delving deep into the model using tools like Shapley values, among others. After confirming the efficacy of your solution through offline experiments, you'll introduce your improvements to production, thereby enhancing the recommendations on the live site. You will: - Create and explore data sets for powering recommendations, working closely with domain experts. - Prototype models for making recommendations in new domains. - Use the latest ML technologies such as Neural Networks, Transformers, XGBoost. - Evaluate and compare different models, analyzing trade-offs to determine the best model. - Add new shared capabilities between models in different categories. - Solve technical problems across the stack and contribute to all parts of our code base. - Share your expertise and experience to grow with the team. - Collaborate with product, design, and engineers to understand customer needs, design solutions, and prototype, launch, and iterate. - Build a product that is genuinely loved by users and respects their time. Requirements Given that you've utilized tools, languages, and frameworks that are similar to what we've listed, we welcome your application. - MSc in a relevant field. - 2 years of work experience. - Experience applying statistical models and/or machine learning to real-world problems. - Proficiency in Python or at least one programming language such as Java/C/C++. - Knowledge of classical machine learning techniques. - Proficiency in exploratory data analysis and data visualization. - Excellent team-work and communication skills. Preferred - PhD. - Over 3 years of work experience. - Knowledge of Recommender Systems. - Experience with sklearn, Keras (or other deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow and PyTorch). Salary & Benefits We believe in offering generous compensation and benefits suitable to our all-remote workplace. As such, we offer a salary range of $130,000 - $300,000 coupled with stock options, vested over 4 years. Also, healthcare premiums are completely covered for US-based employees, and for international employees, we will collaborate to find the best healthcare model if you're not covered by your national health plan.
