Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Genomic Data Scientist to join our dynamic team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Based in an agile and collaborative environment, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing robust programming skills for germline and somatic variant analyses within our Long Reads pipeline squad.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research scientific literature to identify new approaches to genome analysis and contribute to the publication and dissemination of findings.
  • Develop and refine algorithms for variant prioritization and classification for cancer diagnostics and screening.
  • Benchmark and enhance tools for whole genome data processing and analysis, including alignment, variant callers, and quality control.
  • Oversee the complete cycle of NGS data analysis, from sequencing QC to annotation and prioritization of variants.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong programming skills in Python and R.
  • Knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing algorithms.
  • Expertise in cancer genomics, understanding tumor drivers, and interpreting genomic data through targeted pathways.
  • Proficiency in Python for efficient data processing and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in developing high-quality, reusable code with a strong command of Git and CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to evaluate statistical and machine learning techniques and apply them in practical scenarios.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional analytical team in academic or industry settings.

Working Model

Genomics England offers a flexible working model, recognizing the value of work-life balance. While the norm is to attend the office twice monthly, this may vary based on role requirements.
