Position Summary

Join our team as a Data Scientist III at Walmart Global Tech! We are looking for a data expert who will leverage advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms to drive significant value across our retail divisions. Your role will be pivotal in developing, executing, and enhancing action plans by offering expert advice and guidance that aligns with both customer and business needs.

Role Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist III, you will:

  • Provide expert insights by developing advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Direct data gathering efforts, assess data validity, and synthesize data into large analytics datasets to support project goals.
  • Utilize big data analytics and advanced data science techniques to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies in data.
  • Build and train statistical models and machine learning algorithms for future project replication.
  • Communicate recommendations to business partners and influence future plans based on data-driven insights.

About the Team

Our team is focused on building reusable technologies that streamline customer acquisition, merchant onboarding, and operational empowerment. In sync with Walmart's ethos of "Everyday Low Cost," we ensure a seamless experience for stakeholders while optimizing tariffs and assortment. We create personalized omnichannel experiences across in-store, mobile app, and web platforms. Our responsibilities include managing the end-to-end onboarding of Third-Party sellers on our Marketplace, overseeing catalog management, order fulfillment, and return & refund processes. We leverage state-of-the-art technologies in web/mobile, cloud, big data, and AI/ML, working closely with various teams to provide scalable technical solutions.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong knowledge of machine learning and statistical foundations.
  • Experience in translating complex problems into data science algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience in computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and big data analytics.
  • Proficiency in Python with excellent understanding of data structures.
  • Experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop (Hive, Pig, MapReduce, HQL, Scala, Spark).
  • Hands-on experience with Git.
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with over 4 years of experience or a Master’s degree with over 3 years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience in the e-commerce domain.
  • Knowledge of R and Julia.
  • Proven success in data science platforms like Kaggle.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 2 years of experience in analytics or a related field. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in any of the mentioned fields or 4 years of relevant experience.
