The Opportunity

(Junior) Software Engineer / Data Scientist, 80-100%

We are looking for a driven (Junior) Software Engineer / Data Scientist to join our Scientific Operations team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of our internal data processing and analysis pipelines, as well as customer-facing web applications for data reporting. You will play a key part in transforming our data processing workflows to run on Microsoft Azure. Your contributions will range from developing small internal applications and scaling an RDBMS to creating a customer-facing API for data access.

Your Responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve a fit-for-purpose data infrastructure (currently an RDBMS) for our measurement data and metadata alongside the existing team.
• Implement APIs around the data infrastructure.
• Contribute to the development of applications built on top of the data infrastructure.
• Develop ETL processes for the ingestion and curation of data.

Your Profile

• Background in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent experience.
• Versatile skill-set in both back-end and front-end development, alongside data engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and Javascript / Typescript.
• Experience with Relational Database Management Systems like MySQL, Postgres, and Azure SQL.
• Knowledge of API design.
• A proactive attitude towards evolving and shaping our setup and infrastructure.
• Strong command of the English language.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with scaling RDBMS and APIs is a plus.
• Experience with data engineering platforms (e.g., Databricks, Apache Spark) is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Azure platform is a plus.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic workflows is an added bonus.
