Job Description

Northern Trust is on the lookout for a dynamic Lead Data Engineer with 8+ years of experience in software development, primarily using Python. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and unit-testing various modules of our Database product applications, primarily on Snowflake, but also on Databricks and other data services. The role includes building data engineering and data ingestion modules for Snowflake Database (Relational DB) and other data platforms. You will collaborate with Product Management and Application Teams on product requirements, leveraging your programming skills for efficient development throughout the software development cycle to support, maintain, and improve the tools.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering (Snowflake, Databricks, or other data platforms).
  • Experience in designing, developing, and unit-testing database product application modules.
  • Strong hands-on experience with databases (SQL preferred).
  • Excellent debugging skills to identify issues and provide solutions.
  • 4+ years of software development experience in Python.
  • Exposure to agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with data analytics, PySpark, and Big Data is an added advantage.
  • Understanding of data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python libraries like pandas and flask.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, GIT, Confluence, and Cloud technologies.
  • Quick learner of new tools and technologies.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures and handling large data volumes.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in statistical techniques.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
