About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Engineer specialized in low-level systems programming and optimization to enhance our Machine Learning (ML) team. At Jane Street, ML is integral to our dynamic, global trading operations. Our cutting-edge trading environment is perfectly suited for rapid ML experimentation and seamless integration of new technologies.

In this role, you will focus on the optimization of model performance, tackling both training phases and inference implementations. Your expertise in efficient large-scale training and low-latency real-time systems, alongside high-throughput inference for research, will be crucial. You will drive improvements not only in CUDA but also through a holistic approach to systems architecture, including storage, networking, and GPU optimizations.

Key Responsibilities

Apart from enhancing throughput and minimizing latency, your responsibilities will involve in-depth analysis and optimization of our platforms at a granular level. We are interested in individuals who can question the efficacy and efficiency of our systems and are eager to explore new solutions.

While a background in finance is not necessary, a curiosity and fervor for solving complex problems are what many of us shared before joining Jane Street.

Preferred Skills and Experiences

We value a range of skills and experiences including:

• Deep understanding of modern ML algorithms and frameworks
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize the performance of ML training and inference
• Hands-on experience with GPU architectures and CUDA optimization tools such as CUDA GDB, Nsight Systems, and Nsight Compute
• Proficiency in libraries like Triton, CUTLASS, and cuBLAS
• Insight into networking technologies like Infiniband and NVLink, crucial for linking GPU clusters
• Strong knowledge of distributed GPU training technologies such as NCCL or MPI
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking
• Fluency in English is mandatory
