Who We Are | Machine Learning Science at Wayfair We collaborate extensively with stakeholders across our business to build scalable machine learning (ML) solutions and algorithmic platforms that drive additional revenue, enhance customer experience, and improve customer loyalty. With over 10 wide-ranging work streams (Search, Pricing, Personalization & Recommendations, Merchandising, Marketing, Measurement, B2B, Sales, Services, and Supply Chain), and more than 20 specialized sub-teams, our team projects directly influence our customers on a large scale. For instance, we develop unique machine learning models to identify hidden customer preferences, optimize profitability and business strategy by accurately forecasting future demand, costs, and margin, and create machine learning solutions to detect product duplicates in our catalog, among other things. Data is integral to everything we do, and our Machine Learning team plays a crucial role in virtually every aspect of Wayfair. They work closely with various teams across the business to construct and scale innovative solutions to business issues using machine learning. With an in-house A/B testing platform and regular code deployments, our team can swiftly and cogently perceive the effects of its work on the company and the algorithms you create will directly impact the customer experience. What You'll Do | Responsibilities - Develop and scale state-of-the-art machine learning methods to address core business problems - Engineer and support technical platforms for our algorithmic engines to run at scale - Construct end-to-end ML solutions and pipelines to run in real-time, scaling algorithmic insights to influence millions of Wayfair customers - Control the complete machine learning lifecycle from conception to prototyping, testing, deploying, and evaluating overall business value driven by your work as part of a dynamic team - Identify new opportunities and insights from data (how can models be improved? what is the projected ROI of a proposed modification?) - Cooperate with data scientists to create maintainable, scalable, and debuggable code using robust software development practices - Collaborate with a team of driven and friendly scientists and engineers to build and scale unique solutions to business problems What You'll Need | Qualifications - Graduating from a PhD program, or 3+ years of related experience with an MSc/BaSc in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science, economics, etc.) - Proficiency in Python or another major programming language - A strong theoretical understanding and substantial hands-on expertise deploying reinforcement learning solutions into production. - Effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain conclusions to non-experts, and overall prefer simplicity - Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for continual learning - Multifaceted understanding of machine learning fundamentals (supervised/unsupervised learning, recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, deep learning, etc.) - Capability to prosper in a dynamic environment where there can be elements of ambiguity Nice to have - Experience with Python ML ecosystem (numpy, pandas, sklearn, XGBoost, etc.) and/or Apache Spark Ecosystem (Spark SQL, MLlib/Spark ML) - Familiarity with GCP (or AWS, Azure), ML model development frameworks, ML orchestration tools (Airflow, Kubeflow or MLFlow) - Experience with Spark, Kubernetes, Docker would be advantageous Regardless of the position, you will perform a critical role in a growing business while also interacting with high executive visibility.
