Job Description and Qualifications

ForeFlight, a Boeing Company, is on the lookout for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join our Data Team. You'll be part of a dynamic team of data engineers focused on extracting structured aeronautical information from diverse documents.

We seek someone who can independently execute, deliver, and complete projects while seeking advice and direction from team members when needed. Natural curiosity and an exploratory mindset are crucial for staying up-to-date with new technologies, balancing innovation with execution priorities.

Position Responsibilities

• Select appropriate ML models for classification problems.
• Utilize aviation expertise to clean data and design preprocessing pipelines.
• Train and validate ML models.
• Fine-tune OCR and document question-answering software for information extraction.
• Develop Python software to integrate ML models with ETL pipelines into a Postgres database.
• Troubleshoot integration issues with our Java backend.
• Collaborate with other teams to uncover machine learning opportunities that address their challenges.

This position is virtual, and relocation is not required. Note that we do not sponsor employment visa status for this role.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Graduate education in Machine Learning or Data Science.
• Aviation domain experience equivalent to a private pilot’s license.
• Experience with ETL pipelines, data cleaning, and PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in using OCR libraries for data extraction from PDF or Word documents.
• Minimum 3 years of Python programming experience.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional experience or advanced technical education (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related experience, 9 years' work experience, etc.).

Salary Range: $121,550.00 - $164,450.00, based on experience and qualifications.
