Job Description

The Sports Modelling division of the Data Science team is seeking a Data Scientist who will be accountable for developing pre-match and in-play sports betting forecasting models. The position is based in Athens.

Principal Responsibilities

• Retrieve relevant data from the data-lake.
• Employ data cleansing techniques to identify incorrect or inaccurate data entries.
• Use statistical methods to identify patterns in the data.
• Develop models for various pre-match and in-play betting markets.
• Implement models using an object-oriented programming language.
• Assess and maintain current models.
• Document the adopted process.
• Report workflow and share insights with the Data Science team to the Director of Data Science.
• Work closely with product owners and software developers to transition projects from concept to integration.
• Explain the key elements that guide the model to clients.

Qualifications

Essential

• A postgraduate degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics or a closely related quantitative field.
• 3+ years of professional experience or a PhD in a quantitative discipline.
• Familiarity with various modelling techniques (e.g., Probability Distributions, GLMs, Monte Carlo Simulations, Bayesian Inference, Time-Series Analysis, etc.).
• Advanced programming abilities: (a) statistical programming (R or Python), (b) object-oriented programming (C# or Java) and (c) SQL programming.
• An evident interest in developing forecasting models for sports.
• A sound understanding of betting concepts and markets.

Desirable

• 2+ years of work experience in the betting industry.
• Knowledge of modern Machine Learning methodologies (e.g., Neural Networks, Random Forests, GBMs, SVMs, etc.).
• Experience with data visualisation platforms (e.g., Tableau, Qlik Sense, R-shiny, etc.).
• Experience with version control platforms (e.g., GitHub, Gitlab, Bitbucket, etc.)
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• You must have a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills.
• You must be self-motivated, a team-player and a creative thinker.
