Join Our Team as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Machine Learning Enhanced Multiscale Reactive Fluid Dynamics

At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland's leading research institute for natural and engineering sciences, we are excited to offer an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our Laboratory for Waste Management - Transport Mechanics group. This position is integral to a research project sponsored by SwissNuclear, focusing on pioneering applications in nuclear reactor flows and CRUD formation.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:

  • Engage in cross-scale modelling of reactive multiphase flow and conjugate heat transfer in heterogeneous materials.
  • Utilize machine learning techniques to enhance numerical solvers and analysis within our existing scientific frameworks.
  • Perform advanced 2D/3D multiphase simulations using both in-house lattice-Boltzmann codes and commercial software on CPU and GPU platforms.
  • Participate in the co-development of codes, ensuring their benchmarking and validation.
  • Publish and present your research findings in reputable scientific journals and conferences.

Who We Are Looking For

We are in search of a dynamic team player who can also function independently. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Sciences.
  • Proven experience in numerical simulations and fluid dynamics, particularly using the lattice Boltzmann method.
  • Strong programming skills in C, Cuda, and Python.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

What We Offer

PSI is committed to fostering an interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic work environment. We provide:

  • Systematic job training alongside opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Supportive measures for balancing personal interests and family life alongside your career.
  • A contract that initially spans 2 years, with potential extensions based on performance and project continuity.

For additional details about this exciting opportunity or to submit your application, please contact Dr. Nikolaos Prasianakis at +41 56 310 24 15.
