Principal, Data Architecture at OCC

What You'll Do
This role is pivotal in data architecture and design across OCC, supporting our IT infrastructure. You will set standards, coordinate with subject matter experts, document and design solutions ensuring our strategic goals align with operational outcomes. Major contributions will be made to OCC’s Joint Technology Strategy, including evaluations during proof-of-concept/value initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and blueprint the data architecture within our framework for organizational support.
- Analyze structural requirements for new solutions and optimize existing database systems.
- Conduct requirements-based analysis and select appropriate data tools.
- Enforce data modeling standards, creating logical and conceptual data models.
- Ensure adherence to data architecture principles across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with Data Governance, IT, and data stewards on strategic data quality solutions.
- Advise on IT technology standards, methodologies, and processes.
- Drive short and long-term architecture strategies for key business segments.
- Design and develop infrastructure and solution documentation.
- Communicate and coordinate across IT, Application Development, Operations, and Management.
- Implement projects using traditional and Agile methodologies to achieve business aims.
Qualifications
Essential skills and experiences include:
- 10+ years of progressive experience leading to a Senior-level Data Architect, Data Engineer, DBA, consultant, or technical lead.
- Experience in designing data lake/warehouse solutions, especially in the cloud.
- Strong background in relational and non-relational data schema design and messaging protocols.
- Proven track record in data science and data analytics solutions.
- Proficiency in tools like Kafka, Protocol Buffers, SQL/NoSQL databases, Tableau, Power BI, and federated query tools.
- Experience extracting technical requirements from business goals.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field and certifications such as Lean/Six Sigma, ITIL, or ITAM.
