About the Role

Muon Space is actively constructing a pioneering team to develop value-added products from Earth observations using our constellation of low Earth orbit satellites and other geospatial datasets. We are in search of a Remote Sensing Data Scientist to join our esteemed Muon Science Team. You will be instrumental in developing algorithms and processing final data stages from our spacecraft's instruments. Collaborating closely with instrument engineering and ground data systems teams, your mission is to ensure the highest science data quality with minimal latency, contributing significantly to our climate change monitoring and mitigation goals.

As part of this role, you will work with various data from multiple instrument types, requiring adaptability in handling diverse topics.

Location: Open to candidates in Los Angeles, Mountain View, CA, or Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of data processing pipeline algorithms and software.
  • Create advanced data products from remote sensing observations.
  • Collaborate with scientists and data teams to continuously refine data products.
  • Willing to learn new domains such as measurement techniques, retrieval concepts, and data platforms/tools.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing algorithms using data from remote sensing/RF instruments.
  • Proficiency in common machine learning platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Advanced skills in Python for development and analysis.
  • Capability to work effectively with a distributed, interdisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing retrieval algorithms from satellite Earth observations.
  • Proven ability to build geospatial data products.
  • Familiarity with common geospatial data formats (e.g., HDF5, Zarr, COG).
  • Understanding of scientific instrument principles.
  • Experience with cloud-native systems (preferably AWS).

This role necessitates access to export-controlled information. Salary:

The salary range for this position is $95K-$195K, dependent on your skills, qualifications, and experience as assessed during the interview process.
