Job Summary
We are seeking a Motor Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in electric propulsion design to join our team. You’ll play a critical role in designing, developing, prototyping, and testing electrical propulsion systems, shaping the future of flight. Be part of a groundbreaking project contributing to greener aviation and protecting our environment for future generations. You will spend at least three days a week in the office, collaborating closely with the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design 3D CAD and 2D drawings for electrical machines and their tooling
- Provide engineering analysis and first principle calculations to support designs
- Support design solutions from requirements to production, test, and verification
- Engage in hands-on manufacturing process development and design in the workshop
- Liaise with suppliers and partners for electric propulsion system development
- Identify opportunities for technical innovation and IP development
- Generate technical reports and presentations for reviews
- Plan technical work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience in mechanical design of rotating equipment
- Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks, Siemens NX)
- Understanding of mechanical design principles and first principles calculations
- Application of GD&T process according to BS8888, ASME 14.5Y
- Experience with FEA software for simple mechanical structures
- Use of Product Lifecycle Management tools
- Experience with FMEAs and safety-critical engineering practices
- Support of prototype manufacturing and assembly teams
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience in the Aerospace industry
- Background in vehicle electrification
- Finite Element Modelling for rotordynamics, structural analysis, fatigue/fracture
- Familiarity with system engineering standards for complex system development
- Basic understanding of electromagnetics and thermal principles
- Experience in designing electric motors for traction applications
- Proficiency with Windchill and design life cycles from concept to prototype
