What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Design and develop new algorithms and analysis tools that integrate genetic variation data with other molecular, cellular, and phenotypic data.
  • Implement, extend, and debug advanced machine learning models.
  • Design and build robust data infrastructure and tools.
  • Collaborate with other scientific teams to complete complex projects and present findings within 23andMe and the larger scientific community.

What You’ll Bring

Ideal candidates should have:

  • A Ph.D. in the physical or life sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics).
  • A deep understanding of computational biology, statistical genetics, and/or machine learning.
  • A proven track record of academic or industrial accomplishments, including the development of novel methods for large-scale data analysis.
  • Proficiency in R or Python, especially with Python-based machine learning libraries such as Pytorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience developing methods using modern neural network architectures like Transformer, Graph Convolutional, and Diffusion models.
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts and scientific insights to a diverse audience.
  • An ability to work effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with EHR data and research in disease areas like metabolic diseases, immune diseases, or oncology is a plus.
  • Availability to work onsite for three days a week (Tuesday-Thursday) at our Sunnyvale, CA office.

Pay Transparency

23andMe adopts a market-based approach to pay, varying by geographic location. The salary range for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area is $131,000—$196,000 USD. Starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Salary ranges may be modified in the future.
