Senior Data Scientist (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

Owlstone Medical (www.owlstonemedical.com) is dedicated to saving 100,000 lives and $1.5 billion in healthcare expenses through the creation and application of Breath Biopsy®, a technology that allows for the noninvasive collection and analysis of biomarkers in exhaled breath for early disease detection and precision medicine. We are currently looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a strong track record of data-driven decision making. The ideal candidate should be able to identify business or engineering problems and transform them into data science issues, proficiently gather data, carry out thorough analysis and modeling. They should also work cooperatively with project managers and engineering teams to apply these solutions operationally. The role involves collaboration with data scientists, data engineers, informaticians, biostatisticians, analytical scientists, and systems and mechanical engineers to continually improve our models and enhance the understanding of their interpretation. Key responsibilities of the role: - Provide support to scientific effort through the development of data processing and data visualization tools - Work closely with scientists to develop algorithms that improve sensitivity and selectivity - Develop Machine Learning (ML) algorithms that are production level and fully tested - Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enable end-to-end product development - Participate in experimental design, specifically when collecting training/test/validation data - Present data analysis techniques and visualizations organization-wide - Maintain pipelines and code development - Validate, monitor, and drive continuous improvements to data methods, proposing enhancements - Develop and apply tools and pipelines to efficiently collect, clean, and prepare data for analysis - Encourage the development of the team through peer reviews, mentorship of junior members, and establishing best practices - Actively contribute to the success of the information science group Requirements: - Extensive experience with Python - Proficiency with Data Analysis and Visualization libraries (e.g., Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Plotly, etc. - Proficiency with Machine Learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Keras, Tensorflow, etc.) - Proficiency with scripting/programming and pipelining tools - Excellent understanding of different Machine Learning algorithms - Proficiency in database management, using SQL and SQLalchemy - Familiarity with Git, CI/CD best practices, and Agile environments - Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues - Proficient in mentoring team members and fostering excellent code quality - Experience in recognizing, quantifying, and addressing sources of variance Desirable: - Experience working with raw data from laboratory and non-laboratory environments, and with scientific instruments About Owlstone Medical: Owlstone Medical is devoted to saving 100,000 lives and $1.5 billion in healthcare costs through the development and application of Breath Biopsy®.
