Role Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist within our Lending Tribe, you will engage with an expansive dataset encompassing billions of transactions from millions of active users. Your expertise will drive the development of transformative models that empower businesses across numerous countries to access credit via SumUp’s innovative lending products. You’ll collaborate with a skilled team of analysts, engineers, and scientists, utilizing top-tier tools to revolutionize our product offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enhance core lending models including credit risk scoring and affordability forecasting, implementing cutting-edge machine learning techniques.
• Design strategies for data collection and create novel algorithms to tap into new market segments.
• Analyze behavior patterns within the data to construct new models that extend beyond credit risk assessments, targeting areas such as fraud prevention and conversion prediction.
• Effectively communicate analytical results to stakeholders across product and business teams.
• Provide mentorship to fellow Data Scientists, promoting a culture of excellence in data science rooted in robust engineering practices.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

• Over 5 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist.
• Proficient in Python and its scientific libraries (pyspark, pandas, pytorch, scikit-learn).
• Solid background in SQL and a strong grasp of statistics, machine learning, and probability theory.
• A proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning models on a large scale.
• Exceptional capability in technical reading, writing, and stakeholder communication.

Desirable Additional Skills:

• Prior experience in Credit Risk assessment.
• Background in software engineering with a passion for clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Educational background in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a comparable field.
