What’s the role?

Etsy is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Etsy Ads engineering group as part of the Ads Marketplace team. Our team is committed to aiding sellers expand their businesses on Etsy by creating and implementing machine learning solutions that power their advertising campaigns. The ideal applicant has knowledge in ad delivery, automatic bidding systems, budget pacing and/or conversion optimization.

With a million unique products on Etsy, your responsibility in this role will be to design data-driven techniques to optimize sellers' advertising budgets ensuring their products appear where they perform best on Etsy. You will architect and implement solutions including automatic bidding, budget pacing optimizations, traffic forecasting, auction design, and the evaluation of auction marketplace effects.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Engineering Manager for the Ads Marketplace team. The base ranges from $196,000 to $230,000 USD per year. Additionally, you will be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and that provide you and your family the support you need as part of your overall rewards package at Etsy.

This position requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office either in-person or flexibly. Candidates living within commutable distance from the Brooklyn Hub, may be given priority. What does everyday work look like?

• Apply the latest optimization and machine learning advancements to enhance our ad system with new bidding strategies and improve budget pacing
• Prototype, tune, and implement large-scale ML models to enhance ad delivery
• Design and run experiments (A/B testing, etc.) to assess marketplace effects
• Collaborate closely with product managers, ML engineers, full-stack engineers, and designers to measure and improve our ad marketplace while delivering value to our sellers

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You have a proven experience in applying statistical techniques to address real-world problems
• You are an expert in one of the following domains: optimization, forecasting, auction design, reinforcement learning, machine learning
• You have experience with the training, deployment, monitoring, debugging and iteration of production machine learning systems
• You can effectively draw requirements and guide your team from design through to completion
• You write understandable, testable code with maintainability in mind
• You value the impact of your work on end users
