About the Role

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will use your extensive technical skills to address and solve critical and complex issues within our marketplace systems. You’ll apply machine learning to create and optimize solutions in areas such as routing optimization, pricing, dispatch, and mapping. You will lead initiatives from initial concept through to implementation and experimentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions to tackle marketplace challenges.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and backend engineers to understand business needs and create impactful ML applications.
• Engage with diverse stakeholders to ensure solutions are integrated and aligned with business goals.
• Refine and advance algorithms and models to enhance operational efficiency.

About the Team

The Logistics & ML group drives the intelligence behind Instacart's fulfillment system. We optimize a multi-sided marketplace to ensure timely and high-quality order deliveries for customers, efficient work for shoppers, and reasonable business for retailers and consumer brands. We tackle challenging problems in matching, pricing, geospatial data, and more, all while running a high-throughput system with dynamic data.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or equivalent self-study and experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python and fluency in data manipulation (SQL, Pandas) and Machine Learning tools (scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow).
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of industry experience using machine learning to solve real-world problems with large datasets.
• Knowledge of deep learning frameworks and methodologies.
• Experience applying machine learning and optimization techniques to solve marketplace problems.

Compensation and Benefits

Instacart offers highly competitive compensation and benefits. This role is remote, and the base pay range varies by location. Additional benefits include a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants. .

Base Pay Ranges:
CA, NY, CT, NJ: $198,000—$258,000 USD
WA: $190,000—$248,000 USD
OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $182,000—$237,000 USD
All other states: $165,000—$214,000 USD
