The Position

As a Senior NLP Scientist at Novo Nordisk, you will harness state-of-the-art NLP text-mining, artificial intelligence, mechanistic modeling, and Knowledge Graphs to support early-stage research. Your role will focus on extracting actionable insights from unstructured text, including scientific literature, patents, patient literature, drug labels, clinical trial data, news media, pipeline data, internal reports, and Electronic Lab Notebooks. You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate both internally and externally, explore innovative data sets, contribute to strategic discussions, and leverage significant GPU resources. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting pioneering research in information retrieval, including LLMs and Knowledge Graph technologies.
  • Developing advanced algorithms for information extraction, relationship extraction, semantic similarities, summarization, and Natural Language inference.
  • Utilizing neural network models for language understanding tasks and contributing to the development and fine-tuning of language models.
  • Supporting Scientific Intelligence and Digital Science & Innovation teams with knowledge enriching analysis results via natural language generation and GenAI.
  • Collaborating closely with relevant teams to implement best-practices into production and influence technical directions.
  • Presenting and reporting scientific findings to stakeholders and contributing to various NLP and knowledge graph projects.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Science, Information Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience with Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning technologies.
  • Profound knowledge of Deep Learning methods applied to NLP.
  • Programming experience, particularly in Python, and familiarity with AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, or Hugging Face.
  • Experience with NLP toolkits like Spacy, CoreNLP, OpenNLP, and LLM frameworks such as Langchain, LlamaIndex, etc.
  • Publication record in top NLP/ML venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, NACL, EMNLP, NAACL, TACL, AAAI, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industries is an added advantage.

You will join the Novo Nordisk Scientific Intelligence department, a centralized hub offering external information, tools, and technologies to extract data and insights for users across Novo Nordisk worldwide. Our department aims to provide modern digital solutions, ensuring that research scientists have seamless access to quality information sources, state-of-the-art technologies, and professional research tools. Scientific Intelligence is part of the Data & Knowledge Discovery (DKD) research area, which drives data and knowledge excellence, external collaborations, and access to emerging technologies in drug discovery. DKD is a segment of Digital Science & Innovation (DSI), participating in drug development projects from early discovery to pre-clinical development.
