Job Overview

As a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer focused on Search and Discovery, you'll employ the most advanced algorithms to enhance and innovate Coupang's product search and discovery experience, which includes understanding user intent, content, improving search ranking quality, image processing, and everything visible on the search page. You are expected to be an experienced professional in areas such as recommendation systems, machine learning, deep learning, or natural language processing. The ideal candidates are practical, ingenious, and open to seemingly insurmountable challenges. They also have extensive industry experience and a history of delivering highly impactful projects.

What You Will Do

· Determine the root cause of the current search and recommendation system's bottlenecks and quantify the defects.

· Propose solutions to address the search and discovery defects, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Large Language Models.

· Implement solutions and conduct A/B tests.

· Act as a thought leader, able to build consensus within the organization when necessary.

Example projects include:

· Using Large Language Models to create the next generation of search experience to aid users in shopping research and decision making.

· Employ advanced image processing technologies to enhance product image quality and establish the basis for visual search.

Basic Qualifications

· Over 7 years of experience in related fields including Search, Visual Search, Recommendation Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Natural Language Processing.

· Proficient coding skills in Java, C++, or Python.

· Problem solver, practical, and open-minded.

· Experience with handling large volumes of data in a distributed environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Keenness to explore new technological domains and deepen domain knowledge.

· Ability to think outside the box and challenge established norms.

· A passion to explore, enhance, automate, and optimize distributed systems and tools.

· A PhD in Computer Science or a related Engineering field.

· Additional points for experience in e-commerce, social networking, or search companies.

· Additional points for expertise in large language models, generative AI, visual search, and image processing.

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects labor costs across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $159,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $324,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by several factors such as market location and may fluctuate based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
