Position: Sr. Data Architect

As the Sr. Data Architect, you will take on a technical leadership and architectural role for our suite of data products and analytics platform services within Digital Health. Your responsibilities will include defining specific database structures and data models for our digital health data and analytics platform. You will work closely with platform architects, product teams, and engineering teams. This is a unique opportunity within a fast-growing team that operates with the dynamism of a startup, backed by the resources of a global leader in eye care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture design of a reusable and modular data & analytics platform based on Alcon’s enterprise IT architecture, enabling automated value generation from data.
  • Design end-to-end data flows and pipelines, including data ingestion, processing, database structures, detailed data models and schemas, data integration strategies, and database optimization.
  • Translate user needs and business requirements into technical data requirements, in collaboration with the product team.
  • Create POCs to mitigate technical challenges in the solution design and provide guidance and coaching to data engineers for implementation.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to develop and deliver data products and platform services that meet specified requirements.
  • Establish and implement data standards, best practices for data governance, management, and quality assurance in Digital Health.
  • Work with privacy and security teams to define and implement data privacy and security requirements, ensuring compliance with regulations such as HITRUST, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO, SOC-II, etc.
  • Mentor and develop data engineering talent, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Manage relationships with third-party technology vendors and data providers to ensure data quality, accuracy, and security.

What You’ll Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in computer science, operational research, or a related technical field.
  • Over 7 years of hands-on experience in data architecture design and data modeling.
  • Proven experience leading the design and development of large-scale, reliable cloud-based data platform solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience with database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and data warehouses (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • 4+ years of experience with AWS Cloud and designing ETL/ELT for batch and real-time data processing architectures.
  • Experience with distributed large-scale data products and proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala programming.
  • Good understanding of MLOps tools like SageMaker or Vertex AI.
  • Skilled in regulatory compliance for data privacy and security (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA).
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, c-CDA, DICOM).
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and release management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification is a plus.
