The Difference You Will Make:
As an ML data scientist, you will be the hands-on Science Lead for technical projects aimed at developing and communicating an understanding of user behaviour and app performance patterns. The Guest Data Science team works to identify, model and measure user intentions at different stages of the product journey and collaborate with a strong team of engineers to improve any hindrances in our online user experience. Our team works across a wide range of Airbnb's largest datasets and we are committed to applying innovation and creativity in extracting a fundamental understanding of our users, given the richness and complexity of their behaviours and preferences.
A Typical Day:
- Spend time building machine learning prototypes, developing data mastery to uncover insights, and formulating structured frameworks to categorize our users' online product experiences and interpret their behaviours
- Experiment with state-of-the-art innovations to enhance Airbnb's standard technical problem-solving methods
- Frequently present work internally at monthly meetings to technical, engineering and product stakeholders to iterate and generate excitement about progress
- Publish externally and engage with the scientific community to improve Airbnb's standing
Your Expertise:
- 9+ years of relevant industry experience (e.g. ML scientist, tech lead, junior faculty) and a Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field
- Strong proficiency in Python or R for hands-on IC work and advanced data analysis in SQL at scale
- Comfort collaborating with software engineers to understand complex systems
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with varying technical audiences
- Healthy blend of strong intellectual curiosity, pragmatism and engagement with the technical community. Publications or presentations in recognized journals/conferences is a plus
- Capacity to employ a product-oriented mindset in developing and applying innovative solutions, taking the user experience into account
Your Location:
This position is eligible for remote work in the US. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsite meetings, as agreed with your manager. How We'll Take Care of You:
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base salary is dependent on various factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demand. The base salary range can change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for a bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
Our Pay Range for this position is between $185,000 and $245,000 USD.
