The Marketing and Advertising Data Science Team at Walmart is focused on developing advanced data-driven, ML/AI solutions. Our goal is to assist Walmart, suppliers, and sellers in connecting with customers through innovative marketing and advertising strategies to achieve business objectives. Our marketing efforts aim to attract high-quality traffic while optimizing costs, enhancing organic search rankings, and expanding our loyal customer base through personalized messaging. For advertising, our work centers on expanding opportunities, improving ad relevance, accurate forecasting, and better lift measurements.

Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will make a remarkable impact by:

• Developing advanced machine learning and deep learning models to improve marketing strategies, such as enhancing page attributes, meta titles, descriptions, and linkage recommendations.
• Processing large-scale datasets using distributed computing platforms to extract valuable insights and optimize business metrics.
• Creating visuals and reports to effectively communicate model outcomes and insights to business stakeholders.
• Collaborating with engineering teams to transition AI innovations into scalable, reliable solutions.
• Maintaining high academic standards through patent applications, publications, conference presentations, and collaborative research efforts.

You’ll Wow Us If You Have

• Expertise in deep-learning based generative models, LLM, and natural language processing.
• Experience in fine-tuning and deploying large deep-learning models.
• Proficient in Python and SQL, with experience managing large data volumes.
• A PhD with 2 years of experience or a Master’s with 4 years of experience in computer science, statistics, data science, mathematics, or related fields.
• A solid academic and publication record in top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, EMNLP, etc.).
• Previous industrial experience in recommendation systems, e-commerce, or related areas.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you need:

• Bachelor’s in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields and 4 years of experience in analytics.
• Master’s in the aforementioned fields and 2 years of experience.
• 6 years’ experience in analytics or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, etc.
• Experience in machine learning, optimization models, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA) and experience in creating inclusive digital experiences.
