About the Role – Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Behaviors

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer position in our Behaviors team is crucial for developing cutting-edge machine learning models that ensure smooth and safe autonomous driving in urban settings. This role involves a dynamic mix of research, such as exploring and prototyping new algorithms, and development, including optimizing and refining on-road performance of models aiming for production deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead applied ML research and development initiatives to address challenges encountered on urban roads.
• Collaborate with teams across Perception, Robotics, and Controls to integrate diverse datasets and improve model performance.
• Guide technology strategies and make pivotal decisions that align with our business and operational goals.
• Support and mentor other engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment.

What We Require:

• Advanced degree in CS/CE/EE or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• In-depth experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Caffe, PyTorch.
• Strong programming skills in Python or C++ and a solid grasp of mathematical concepts relevant to machine learning.
• A genuine enthusiasm for autonomous vehicle technology and its potential impact.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Machine Learning or Computer Science.
• Proven experience in robotics middleware (such as ROS), computer vision libraries (like OpenCV), and tools like Gazebo or PCL.
• Experience in CUDA and deploying real-world machine learning prediction models.
