About the Role

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you'll join a team of 8 engineers to innovate and enhance the search and discovery experience for Coupang Eats. You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the end-to-end Search ecosystem, including:

• Our online ranking system
• Data pipelines that produce candidates and features for our ranking logics
• Relevance and conversion modeling

In a controlled environment, you'll run experiments to validate and launch features that improve customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and enhance the Search service, the backbone of Coupang Eats, to continually wow customers
• Collaborate with Silicon Valley eCommerce teams to share knowledge and integrate the latest techniques
• Analyze vast amounts of data to gain insights into customer behavior
• Develop new Machine Learning models and features to create or improve recommendation algorithms
• Create data jobs to generate Machine Learning features, build and train new models, and run experiments for validation and launch
• Mentor and grow engineering talent within the team

Qualifications

Required:

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related scientific fields
• 4+ years of experience working with large-scale, complex datasets
• Proven track record of discovering hidden patterns in data and solving problems with data science
• Self-learner with a history of launching successful features and improving business metrics
• Strong communication skills

Preferred:

• Professional Korean proficiency
• Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields
• Experience with LLMs or modern NLP models
• Experience as a ranking engineer in a fast-paced environment
• Industrial experience working with large-scale online serving systems
• Proven ability to write robust, efficient code using Java with unit and integration tests
• Excellent communication skills, growth mindset, and a can-do attitude
