Job Responsibilities

As a Camera Control Algorithm Research Engineer/Lead on the C&D Signal Processing and Camera Architecture Team, you will be responsible for:

  • Researching, designing, developing, testing, and qualifying camera AF/OIS control algorithms for FRL products.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams (Product Management, Camera HW Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers) for camera prototyping, development, and system integration.
  • Leading the camera AF/OIS control algorithm roadmap, research, development, qualification, and production ramp-up to create new photography user experiences.
  • Understanding and optimizing camera hardware and software architectures, enhancing AF/OIS control algorithm performance and efficiency.
  • Working with the camera HW team to develop the camera AF/OIS control architecture, define the factory camera control calibration procedure, and create test/validation plans.
  • Driving prototype ideas for proof of concept and demonstration purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

We prefer candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Imaging Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience programming in MATLAB, Python, Objective C, or C/C++.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in camera control algorithm development from product definition to NPI and production ramp-up.
  • Working knowledge of camera module structure, including lenses, sensors, actuators (AF/OIS), Gyros/IMUs, and an understanding of image quality fundamentals and system drivers.
  • Experience in driving algorithm development from prototype to real-time deployment.
  • Skills in data analysis using JMP, MATLAB, or related software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will stand out:

  • Understanding of overall systems interactions in the image ISP pipeline.
  • Experience in developing imaging algorithms like Auto Focus, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Auto-Exposure, and Auto White Balance.
  • Expertise in standard imaging interfaces and protocols in typical consumer platforms.
  • Knowledge of camera actuator working principles and characterization methodologies.
  • Experience in camera module mechanical design and basic tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in image quality evaluation methodologies (test algorithms, charts, lab setup) and quality metrics.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and AI Algorithms.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This range reflects the base hourly rate or annual salary only and does not include bonuses, equity, or sales incentives.
