Data Analysis Internship (Non-Thesis): Optics Lifetime Testing and Plasma-Material Interaction

Are you a graduating Bachelor or Master student in Chemistry, Applied Physics, Material Science, Mathematics, Programming, Data Analysis, or a related field looking for an apprentice internship? Do you have a background in physics, chemistry, or material science, and experience in programming and data analysis? Then this internship might be perfect for you!

About ASML

ASML is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands, specializing in the manufacture of complex lithography machines used by chipmakers to produce integrated circuits or computer chips. Our innovations are at the heart of electronic devices worldwide, from smartphones to advanced computing systems.

About the Optics Lifetime Testing Team

The EUV optics is the core of the ASML scanner, consisting of complex multilayer mirrors that reflect and focus extreme ultraviolet light (EUV). Operating in highly aggressive environments with high-energy radiation and EUV-induced plasma, these mirrors require precise contamination control and prevention of optical degradation to ensure optimal performance. Our Optics Lifetime Group aims to predict and secure the EUV optics lifetime through sophisticated testing and analysis.

Your Assignment

As an intern within the Optics Lifetime Testing team, you will develop new tools and methods for analyzing time-resolved ellipsometry data acquired during accelerated lifetime testing of EUV optics. Your work will include:

  • Developing methods and tools for ellipsometry data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python
  • Applying developed methodology to existing experimental data
  • Investigating the impact of individual stressors on the kinetics of coating degradation
  • Presenting results and participating in technical discussions
  • (Optional) Participating in experiments performed on a unique EUV setup located in the ASML cleanroom

Throughout your assignment, you will gain hands-on experience applying MATLAB/Python programming skills for data analysis to explain experimental observations.

Your Profile

To be the ideal candidate for this internship, you should:

  • Be a graduating Bachelor or Master student in Chemistry, Applied Physics, Material Science, Mathematics, Programming, Data Analysis, or a related field
  • Ideally, have a background in physics, chemistry, or material science
  • Have experience in programming and data analysis (Python and/or MATLAB) and basic knowledge of plasma and gas-solid interactions (nice-to-have)
  • Be motivated to learn, possess strong analytical skills, be flexible and collaborative
  • Have excellent communication skills and be fluent in English, both verbally and in writing

This is a graduating Bachelor or Master apprentice internship with a minimum duration of 6 months, for 4-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible. Note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.
