About the Role: Data Team Lead

We are seeking a Data Team Lead to join our engineering organization and shape the trajectory of our Data Team. You’ll collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to build systems that power Gearset as we scale. Our SaaS platform collects increasing telemetry from user engagement, and our growing customer database and cloud-native back-end systems generate valuable data that drives informed decisions across the company.

The Data Team's mission is to empower data practitioners across the organization, enabling them to derive actionable insights and drive impactful changes to our products and processes. As a leader, you will guide the team from creating and sharing models, reports, and dashboards to establishing a data-driven culture where data is seamlessly integrated into daily workflows.

Your Responsibilities:

• Line manage, nurture, and grow the data team, helping them achieve their development goals
• Define objectives for the data team in collaboration with key stakeholders
• Analyze non-technical stakeholders' requirements and provide documentation, tools, and support
• Work with other data practitioners to share resources and prevent silos
• Develop intuitive tooling and deliver training for responsible data use
• Apply software engineering best practices to govern the data platform
• Drive team velocity, ensuring the delivery of solutions that support the business
• Maintain and extend our data platform, making key decisions about its future
• Collaborate across teams to collect and feed data into our platform
• Build out data transformation tooling for business-relevant dashboards and reports

About You:

• Experienced in leading teams and projects, ensuring collaboration to solve the right problems
• A seasoned data analytics engineer with 5+ years of experience working with data platforms
• Proficient in SQL and data modeling
• Experienced with cloud-based data analytics platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake
• Enthusiastic about using data analysis to aid decision-making

Nice to Have:

• Experience with data transformation tools and languages such as dbt, Spark, or Python
• Familiarity with business intelligence tools like Tableau, Looker, or AWS QuickSight
• Experience with data integration tools such as Airbyte, Fivetran, or Stitch
• Knowledge of DevOps practices including version control and CI/CD
• Experience in product ownership roles, understanding user needs and prioritizing technical work

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary ranges from £78k - £100k (depending on experience)
