Walmart's Marketplace Data Science and Enablement Team is crucial to the growth of our e-Commerce Marketplace. We leverage data analysis, advanced statistics, and best practices in data modeling techniques to support forecasting and problem-solving across various business functions. Collaborating closely with business, product, and engineering teams, our objective is to drive growth and enhance seller success.

Your Responsibilities

As the Director of Data Science, you will oversee pivotal areas crucial to our ambitious growth. Leading a U.S.-based team, you will coordinate with a larger international team supporting a diverse portfolio of business initiatives. Your expertise will be critical in designing, refining, and delivering best practices in modeling across a spectrum of topics, including sales forecasting, risk mitigation, seller experience, and performance optimization.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Lead and develop a team of data scientists, overseeing a portfolio that spans the entire Marketplace organization.
• Develop and manage machine learning and data science models addressing challenges and opportunities in assortment and performance optimization, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with business partners to define priorities and implement actionable solutions.
• Challenge conventional approaches and innovate to enable explosive growth across the Global Marketplace.

Your Skills and Experience

To excel in this position, you should possess the following expertise:

• Profound expertise in Data Science with hands-on experience in building and managing predictive and classification models.
• Ability to translate business problems into practical data-related or mathematical solutions.
• Proficient in handling ambiguity and making independent decisions regarding the best data and approach for the task at hand.
• Excellent communication skills needed to engage with individuals and groups at all organizational levels.
• Strong business insight combined with outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities.
• 6-8 years of supervisory experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position:

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years of experience in an analytics-related field.
• Option 2: Master's degree in any of the above fields with 4 years of experience in an analytics-related field.
• Option 3: 8 years of experience in an analytics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Outlined below are the optional preferred qualifications:

• Background in data science, machine learning, and optimization models.
• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
• Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
• Experience with open-source frameworks like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Torch.
• Experience in creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
