Requirements Position Overview: As the Director of Data Engineering at Birdeye, you will be a strategic leader in charge of guiding and overseeing the data infrastructure, architecture, and engineering processes. Working alongside a team of skilled data and BI engineers, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and play an instrumental role in enabling data-driven decision-making throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data management best practices, possess technical expertise, and demonstrate leadership acumen. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: - Develop and communicate a data engineering strategy that takes advantage of the capabilities of Snowflake and Tableau to support business objectives. - Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the data engineering team. Team Management: - Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data engineering team with expertise in Snowflake and Tableau. - Set clear expectations, provide feedback regularly, and evaluate team performance against set goals. Data Infrastructure and Architecture: - Architect, implement, and optimize data pipelines, ETL processes, and integrate data solutions using Snowflake's cloud data platform. - Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure the availability of high-quality, structured data for analysis and reporting in Tableau. Snowflake and Tableau Expertise: - Serve as the resident expert on Snowflake and Tableau, providing guidance on best practices, optimizations, and advanced functions. - Design and maintain Snowflake databases, warehouses, and data models for optimal scalability and performance. Collaboration and Integration: - Partner with business units, data scientists, and analysts to comprehend data requirements and design solutions that align with organizational goals. - Ensure effective integration between Snowflake and Tableau to enable easy data access and visualization. Data Governance and Compliance: - Establish and enforce data governance standards for data quality, security, and compliance with industry regulations. - Monitor and manage data access, permissions, and auditing within Snowflake and Tableau environments. Project Management: - Lead end-to-end data engineering projects involving Snowflake and Tableau, from inception to deployment, and monitoring. - Prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and ensure timely project completion. Performance Monitoring and Optimization: - Monitor Snowflake and Tableau environments' performance, identifying provisions for optimization and efficiency improvement. - Implement strategies to enhance query performance, reduce data processing time, and optimize resource utilization. Qualifications: - Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. - Over four years of experience in data engineering with a proven track record of successful data projects involving Snowflake and Tableau. - Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams of data engineers. - Expertise in Snowflake's cloud data platform, including data warehousing, database design, and SQL optimization. - Proficiency in Tableau, able to design and develop interactive visualizations and dashboards. - Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or similar. - Excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to adapt to changing business requirements. - Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Experience with data governance, security, and compliance practices is preferred.
