AI Engineer Job Description

TerraPower is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative AI Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will handle time-sensitive situations efficiently, adapt to shifting priorities, and maintain integrity in a diverse team setup. As an AI Engineer, you will build AI tools to support our mission of nuclear energy innovation, from developing AI solutions to protecting our digital assets and ensuring the accuracy of our data.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strict adherence to established software development and project management procedures.
• Build safe and responsible AI systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to discuss product development and leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency.
• Draft, refine, and test text prompts to ensure desired outcomes.
• Gather insights and domain knowledge for effective intent creation.
• Optimize AI models deployed on our Azure infrastructure.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI and machine learning.
• Use LLMs for data processing, outcome creation, and bot logic.
• Evaluate LLM prompts using Excel and basic analysis tools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in developing and deploying web applications, preferably with chatbot or conversational AI systems.
• Quick learning ability in modern AI architectures.
• In-depth knowledge of natural language processing techniques.
• 2+ years of C# programming experience; familiarity with other programming languages (Python, R, etc.).
• Understanding of deep learning architectures and frameworks.
• Ability to own problems end-to-end and acquire necessary knowledge to solve them.
• Intuition for using off-the-shelf solutions and building tools to enhance workflows.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, implementing feedback promptly.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with IEEE/IEC/ISO 29148:2018 processes.
• Experience in an organization with a strong nuclear safety culture or OSHA-compliant environment.
• Experience with classified or controlled records.
• Experience verifying compliance and testing the safety of Generative AI systems.
• Previous projects leveraging retrieval augmented generation.
• Experience with OpenAI API or equivalent.
• Understanding of cloud computing and networking in the Azure ecosystem.
