About the Role

The AIML Information Intelligence team at Apple is pioneering innovative technologies in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing. Our universal search engine enhances the search capabilities across various Apple products like Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, and Lookup. We are also at the forefront of developing advanced generative AI technologies utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to empower Apple’s devices and cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of this dynamic group, you will contribute to large-scale machine learning and deep learning initiatives aimed at improving Open Domain Question Answering. Your role will involve:

• Analyzing search ranking and relevance requirements, issues, and opportunities
• Developing, fine-tuning, and evaluating domain-specific Large Language Models for various tasks and applications in Apple’s AI-powered products
• Conducting applied generative AI research to convert cutting-edge developments into production-ready technologies
• Translating product requirements into modeling and engineering tasks
• Building machine-learned models for question answering, search relevance, ranking, and query understanding problems
• Integrating search functions into Apple products like Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, and Lookup
• Developing end-to-end production systems for query understanding and ranking to drive search and open-domain question answering
• Utilizing Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, Hive, and Impala for distributed data processing

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in machine learning, deep learning/LLM, information retrieval, and natural language processing
• Experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tools for LLMs
• Proficiency in Python and at least one of the following languages: Go, Java, or C++
• Excellent knowledge and practical skills in major machine learning algorithms
• Strong data analytical skills
• Good interpersonal skills and a team player attitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Large Scale Data-Mining and machine learning is a plus
• Experience with ML and LLM model inference optimization is advantageous

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one aspect of our comprehensive compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $161,700 and $284,900, depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
