Amazon Robotics enhances a smarter, quicker, and more consistent customer experience through automation. The company automates fulfilment center functions using various robotic technologies including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition, and understanding of semantic commands. Amazon Robotics focuses on research and development to continuously explore new opportunities to extend its range of products into new fields.
Amazon Robotics co-op opportunities will be based out of the Greater Boston Area in our two state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough, MA, and North Reading, MA. Both campuses offer a unique opportunity to gain direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.
This role is a 6-month co-op from July-December 2024.
The Process Engineering Team is in charge of continuous improvement in the manufacturing areas with a focus on safety, delivery, quality, and cost. The team also collaborates with other internal and external Amazon engineering departments to develop manufacturing solutions for new products.
Key Job Responsibilities:
The Process Engineer Co-op will be responsible for:
- Projects for optimizing manufacturing processes involving data collection, cycle time studies, root-cause/problem-solving initiatives, and the creation of training modules
- Creating business process models using best practice techniques, including documentation of current and future solution designs using gathered requirements
- Gathering, analysing, and documenting functional / technical requirements for new projects, enhancements to existing solutions and addressing production issues reported by end users
- Researching production system issues, solving user problems and escalating when necessary
- Conducting regular project updates and review sessions with cross-functional team members
- Supporting supplier improvement initiatives
- Documenting process and project activities specific to Manufacturing/Tech OPs that support our content and knowledge management initiatives
- Participating in Lean Initiatives including but not limited to 5S performance auditing, Kaizen Event sessions

About the team

Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related education
- Junior year or above in Engineering program
- Still enrolled in College/University and must have at least one semester/term/quarter of school left to complete after the end of the co-op
- May 2025 graduation date or later
- Eligibility and availability for a full-time (40h/week) co-op from July - Dec 2024
- Knowledge of different process innovation methodologies and their practical applications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of metrics, process capabilities, LEAN, and IE techniques
- Proficiency with AutoCAD / 2D layouts
- Creativity, enthusiasm, idealism, and a strong commitment to achieving results
- Ability to work collaboratively and without direct reporting authority; must be a team player
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with both technical and business staff
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience with creating process models
