Key Job Responsibilities

As an Applied Scientist, you will explore and work on state-of-the-art technologies leading to published papers. This role is not just about theoretical research; you will implement algorithms and observe their performance in real-world scenarios. Serving as a tech lead, you will define research directions and guide multiple teams to build solutions that enhance the Amazon and Alexa customer experience.

Location

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Vancouver, BC, CAN.

Basic Qualifications

• Master's degree in econometrics, statistics, industrial engineering, operations research, optimization, data mining, analytics, or equivalent quantitative field.
• 3+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications.
• PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy, etc.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position ranges from $149,300/year to $249,300/year. The final salary will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers a total compensation package, which may include equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation, alongside a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
