About the Position: Associate Energy Resource Modeling Analyst

At NextEra Energy and its affiliate entities, we are recognized as the largest generator of wind and solar energy. We are currently looking for an Associate Energy Resource Modeling Analyst to enhance the design and development of new renewable energy assets. This role involves collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams to numerically model resources, optimize solar design, estimate long-term power production, and communicate results for investment decisions. Additionally, this position offers abundant opportunities for collaborative process improvements and innovative product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run sophisticated solar irradiance and energy models to generate long-term solar and storage energy production estimates.
  • Handle independent production responsibilities while managing multiple diverse customer projects.
  • Collect and filter data, create long-term solar energy production estimates, support investment approval processes, provide financing support, and tackle special projects.
  • Apply technical knowledge in customer service and new product development.
  • Collaborate with Science and Solutions teams for code/application testing and process/application improvements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Weather & Atmospheric Science, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, and C/C++.

Job Overview

This entry-level position works closely with leading Resource Modeling Analysts to master sophisticated weather, wind flow, solar irradiance, and statistical modeling tools. The role involves supporting long-term wind and solar production modeling, with the goal of attaining independent production responsibilities.

Core Services and Deliverables

  • Data collection and filtering for long-term wind or solar energy production estimates.
  • Power curve testing, investment approval processing, site suitability testing, and financing support.
  • Special projects and geospatial analysis for optimal turbine placement with minimal local land use impact.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review on-site wind and meteorological data from various sensing devices.
  • Set up, monitor, and analyze numerical weather models to understand long-term wind/energy resources.
  • Execute in-house software to translate wind resources into energy production for various turbine configurations.
  • Analyze electrical and structural drawings of solar farms and diagnose system energy losses.
  • Provide investment due diligence and financing support, prepare reports, and participate in industry conferences.
  • Travel to project sites for data collection, permitting assistance, community outreach, and on-site audits (5%-25% of the time).
