About the Role
As a Battery Modeling Research Engineer, you will:
- Design and execute research plans that align with our technical strategy, focusing on battery degradation modeling from initial feasibility through new technology initiatives.
- Develop first-principle electrochemical models to identify and analyze major battery degradation mechanisms, predict battery swell behaviors, and assess performance degradation in real-world applications.
- Collaborate closely with product teams, researchers, and cross-functional teams to ensure the integration of validated models into the design and architecture of our products.
- Utilize advanced modeling techniques to support the design of cell structures across various form factors and influence real-time battery management algorithms.
- Ensure rigorous research standards for validating models and reproducibility of results.
- Analyze field data and develop predictive techniques to support continuous performance improvement.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Material, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 3 years of industry experience in developing physics-based battery models, ideally within consumer electronics or electric vehicle sectors.
- Strong prototyping and programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or COMSOL.
- Expertise in electrochemical characterization techniques and custom test procedure development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) with over 5 years in software development for battery management systems.
- Experience with cell manufacturing processes and a deep understanding of major Li-ion cell manufacturers for consumer electronics.
- Proficiency in AI/ML algorithms for battery health diagnostics and forecasting.
- Knowledge in control and estimation theory, model order reduction techniques, and their applications in Li-ion battery modeling.
