The Role

We are seeking experienced Business Intelligence Engineers to support our growing operations and enhance our data capabilities. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in the digital transformation of GoCardless by strategically managing, efficiently utilizing, and securely maintaining data. You will develop foundational models that provide deep insights into our fast-growing business, building with scalability and resilience in mind from the outset.

You'll be part of our Product Development division, collaborating with both technical and non-technical teams across the organization. In close partnership with our BI Analysts, Data Engineers, and Data Operators, you'll design and implement the foundations necessary for delivering first-class analysis.

Python, Looker, Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, among others.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a data architecture that aligns with GoCardless' long-term strategic goals.
  • Provide technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our data warehouse.
  • Develop coherent and performant data models that transform large, complex, and disparate datasets into accessible, understandable, and accurate data products.
  • Collaborate with engineers to prototype, design, and build pipelines that process raw data from production systems, presenting it in a format suitable for both analytical and transactional workloads.
  • Build BI tooling that fully leverages the capabilities of Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
  • Support staff across the company in self-serving Business Intelligence through BI tools such as dbt and Looker.

  • Prior experience in automating repetitive tasks and building robust ETL pipelines.

What Excites Us

  • Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, and database design.
  • Excellent SQL skills and experience with scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake) and handling data at significant scales.
  • Familiarity with self-serve data tools like Looker or Tableau; we're currently using Looker.
  • Experience working in an agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate your work clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort discussing data modeling approaches and sourcing data from third-party APIs.
