The Position

Novo Nordisk is seeking a dedicated Cloud and Data Engineer to join our Digital, Data, and IT team within R&ED (Research & Early Development) in Boston. Our team supports the strategic digital transformation imperative within our R&ED organization, crucial for realizing our scientific strategy. As a Cloud and Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of the data, middleware, and IT infrastructure used by R&ED units across Novo Nordisk, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Relationships

The role will report to the Head of IT in Lexington, MA, and work closely with employees at Novo Nordisk R&D sites in the North American region (including Boston area sites, Seattle, Fremont, and Boulder), lab and scientific research groups, DDIT RED, and the broader DDIT organization globally (primarily in Denmark).

Essential Functions

  • Independently interpret and apply industry standards and NN procedures for developing product requirements and mitigating risks
  • Responsible for project deliverables, stakeholder alignment, and supporting project timelines
  • Deep dive into complex engineering tasks with limited input from senior engineers
  • Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure within the pharmaceutical domain, adhering to industry regulations and best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data requirements, develop data pipelines, and implement scalable solutions for data storage and processing
  • Architect, implement, and manage data models, ETL processes, and data integrations to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives
  • Contribute to the optimization of data storage, retrieval, and processing within cloud-based environments, employing best practices for data security and privacy
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud and on-premise infrastructure and data systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance

Physical Requirements

The job is based in Lexington, MA. Some travel is to be expected.

Qualifications

High School Diploma with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience required. A Bachelor's degree with 3+ years and a Master’s degree with 1+ years of relevant experience can be considered.

In addition, you are expected to have:

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with a strong understanding of cloud-based data services and tools
  • Strong understanding and experience with DevOps principles, including automation, infrastructure/configuration as code, CI/CD, and related practices
  • Experience with scientific software, such as R, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, etc.
  • Experience in data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing, with proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, and big data technologies
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in building scalable data pipelines and data processing workflows
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams as well as independently on projects of moderate complexity & with limited instruction for
