Global Surveillance Strategy Team Responsibilities
As part of our Global Surveillance Strategy Team, you will:
- Take ownership of and improve the quality of surveillance alerts in our 2nd Line of Defense (LOD) function by leveraging your expertise in product-specific market microstructure and supporting data.
- Enhance the Surveillance program by identifying critical order/quote attributes, such as timestamps and market data, that affect alert quality.
- Lead periodic parameter reviews to assess and recommend changes to existing surveillance alerts.
- Conduct “effectiveness reviews” to analyze surveillance alert logic and propose improvements.
- Identify improvements in venue and product coverage by comparing transactional data with surveillance alert generation.
- Act as the technical liaison for GBAM Compliance and Operational Risk groups, coordinating with internal technology teams and external vendors on all product-specific surveillance matters.
- Participate in trading venue onboarding to ensure effective surveillance of new trading activities.
- Engage in market discussions with the front office to stay updated on new order types and market microstructure changes.
- Manage the Surveillance Technology Book-of-Work.
Role Description: Global Surveillance Strategy Specialist
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the execution of regular reviews of the firm's trade surveillance processes and implementing necessary changes.
- Driving the firm's trade surveillance change program.
- Monitoring current developments in trade surveillance technology and promoting best practices.
- Advising on best practices and highlighting issues for policy or procedural changes in response to potential market abuse cases.
- Supporting the rationalization of trade surveillance alerts in our 2nd LOD.
- Helping to improve the Surveillance program by identifying critical order/quote attributes.
- Assisting in parameter reviews to analyze and recommend changes to surveillance alerts.
- Conducting transactional data analysis to verify the completeness of the surveillance data set.
- Acting as a technical liaison for GBAM Compliance and Operational Risk groups.
- Participating in trading venue onboarding initiatives to ensure new trading activities are effectively monitored.
- Engaging in market discussions to stay informed about market updates.
- Supporting the management of the Surveillance Technology Book-of-Work.
Core Requirements
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Knowledge of Market Misconduct behaviors in primary or secondary trading.
- Understanding of the trading domain, including exchange-traded instruments and market microstructure.
- Experience on a trading desk, including order placement, routing, market data, and the full trade life cycle.
- Technical expertise and understanding of data attributes associated with orders and fills (e.g., FIX protocol, binary protocols).
- Knowledge of surveillance systems such as SMARTS, Actimize, KX, TradingHub, or OneTick.
- Programming and data management skills for analyzing model logic, calibrating parameters, and conducting ad-hoc data projects.
- Basic statistical understanding, including mean, median, mode, and standard deviation.
- Strong MS Office skills (Excel and PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with senior stakeholders confidently.
- High aptitude, proactive approach, and entrepreneurial skills.
